From wedding day… to the day their whole world changed.

I first met Catriona & Dave when I filmed their incredible wedding at Pialligo — a day full of so much love, laughter, and the kind of connection you just feel being around them. So when I found out they were expecting, I (very casually) asked if they’d ever consider having their birth filmed.
Catriona’s initial reaction? Absolute horror 😂

She thought I meant I’d be right up in her business filming her who-ha… which, respectfully, is not my style at all.

What I had in mind was something completely different — something honest, emotional, and centred around their connection. The same way I approach wedding films.

When I got the call that she was being induced at Canberra Hospital, I dropped everything and rushed in… only to find there was absolutely no need to rush. Labour unfolded over the next 4–5 hours, giving me the space to quietly sit back, observe, and capture things exactly as they were.
And what I witnessed… I’ll never forget.

Dave was incredible. So calm, so present, so completely in tune with what Catriona needed. The way he supported her, the way they looked at each other — it was constant reassurance, constant love. You could feel the trust between them in every moment.

No performance. No pressure. Just the two of them, in it together.

Then came the moment everything changed.

As baby’s head crowned, the nurse asked Catriona if she wanted to reach down and pull her baby out herself. And she did. In one powerful, beautiful moment, their baby was brought straight up onto her chest.

Instant tears — from them… and from me behind the camera.

They had chosen not to find out the sex during pregnancy, so what happened next was something really special. As they lifted their baby up and saw for the first time…

The joy. The shock. The love. It was all there, raw and real and unforgettable.

I feel so incredibly grateful to have been invited into such an intimate, life-changing moment. To witness it, to feel it, and to preserve it for them to come back to for the rest of their lives… it honestly means everything.
